Wellness & Fitness Programs
According to the Journal of Gerontological Nursing, less than 32% of adults over age 65 participate in moderate exercise. At The Quadrangle, that number is more than 47%.
So what makes physical activity at The Quadrangle so appealing? It's a unique approach called Phase 3 Fitness that was developed by the Director of Fitness and Restorative Exercise, Wil Meredith. He explains:
"Phase 3 Fitness provide residents with three levels of exercise care: Restorative, Responsive, and Reflexive. These are linked to the three-tier residential structure at The Quadrangle, and provide residents in Independent Living, Personal Care, and Skilled Nursing with fitness that is precise."
This tailored approach enables every resident to participate in an exercise program, and the results speak for themselves. As Wil says, "They feel better. They think better. They live better."
Besides the Phase 3 Fitness personal training programs that Wil supervises each day, he also instructs the following classes, which are available to every resident at The Quadrangle:
-
Wilpowercise: This class features Yoga/Pilates/multi-muscular balance movements that encourage body confidence, balance, and increased strength and stamina.
-
Banding Together: Residents utilize Powerbands to improve aerobic stamina and muscular stability. This class features invigorating 40's Big Band music.
-
Sitting Strong: This class is the seated version of "Banding Together," designed for our Residents who require specialized exercise.
-
Now WOWW: "Workout With Weights," or WOWW, workouts are instructive, individual positive resistance workouts for Independent and Personal Care residents held in the Fitness Center and in the Holly building.
-
Movers & Groovers: This seated exercise class was developed for Skilled Nursing/Special Care residents in the Oak building.
-

-

Medals are awarded, along with a Host Trophy that the host community displays until the following games. Activities include swimming, foot races, and even billiards!
